30 April 2017 marks the end of the US President’s first 100 days in office. Traditionally, this date is used as an opportunity for the administration to celebrate its accomplishments thus far, and for the media and the public to evaluate the platform and progress of the administration.

In 2017, the 100th day is a time for damage assessment. As citizens of the United States and of the world, we will be looking at what has happened, and how we – the people – can respond to new challenges to human rights and social justice across the globe.

ExACT, a group of US expats and migrants in Northern Ireland, is marking the end of the First 100 Days with a massive programme: 100 Acts for the 100th Day. We are inviting YOU - our local allies in human rights activism  - to join us on the weekend of the 29th and 30th of April – with the aim of 100 separate events, big and small, happening in Belfast and across Northern Ireland.

Organisations, groups, and even individuals can host an event or perform an Act. These are not necessarily ‘anti-Trump’ events; many won’t be US-oriented at all. These are pro-human rights, pro-social justice events, designed to show the solidarity that exists among progressive communities.

If you want to talk about volunteering for 100 Acts, or adding an event, please get in touch. You can also contact us through our Facebook page or on Twitter @100actsni .

HOW TO PARTICIPATE:
1. Attend some of the scheduled public events on the weekend! These include music and theatre performances, film screenings, lectures and discussions, children’s events, fundraisers, neighbourhood clean-ups, workshops, and charitable collections. Hosting organisations at time of writing include Amnesty International NI, the South Belfast Greens, Homeplus NI, the Homeless Period NI, Queens Film Theatre, Film Hub NI.

2. Commit your own act! Carry out an Act or host a micro-event on the weekend, at home or in your community, by yourself or with family and friends. Then post about it on our Facebook page, using the hashtag #100ActsNI. And don’t forget a photo! Not sure what to do? How about a bit of protest song busking…guerrilla art…a litter clean-up…a poetry reading…helping the environment…direct action…or a round of postcard writing to your local representative. Use your imagination!
